Three Little Fingers
By Marc Read
Ok in this lesson we are going to work out your three little fingers. In fact we will not even use your index finger at all. The whole point on this lesson and exercise it to build strength, and muscle memory in your middle, ring, and pinky finger. We are also not using your index finger because this will become your “bare” finger. We are going to learn to play each of the 5 major forms of E, D, C, A, G with these three fingers.
Let’s get started my playing the main open chords without using your index finger. I’ve listed them below but I would work through them in order but concentrate on being able to switch each chord quick and cleanly.

Practice switching from
E to D, E to C, E to A, E to G
D to E, D to C, D to A, D to G
C to E, C to D, C to A, C to G
A to E, A to D, A to C, A to G
G to E, G to D, G to C, G to A
Enter the Index Finger
Ok now were going to start using out index finger, only to create a bare like a kapo would do. We are going to start this work out at the first fret. Starting with the E form just as we played the open E chord before using just the middle, ring and pinky finger but we are going to use our index finger to bar across the 1st fret. Continue to follow all the chords forms while keeping the index finger barred on the 1st fret.

Practice switching from
E to D, E to C, E to A, E to G
D to E, D to C, D to A, D to G
C to E, C to D, C to A, C to G
A to E, A to D, A to C, A to G
G to E, G to D, G to C, G to A
