I play an epiphone les paul standard through a fender hot rod deluxe.  I have a few pedals that I hardly use.  Boss metal zone,  boss phase shifter,  dunlop crybaby wah.

I never use my pedals anymore, I really like the tone of just my guitar through my amp.  I think it's the simplicity of it or something idk.

Some mods I'm looking at are a set of gibson 57 humbuckers for my paul,  a vintage 30 speaker and a set of jj tubes for my amp,  and there is this mod kit on ebay for the hot rod deluxe I have really been looking in to (I think it's called the ultra mod or something like that).  I have also been thinking about a keeley mod for my metal zone.

That hot rod is a pretty sweet amp.  My brother let me borrow his for about a year i got such good tones out of it.

Have you check out http://store.guitarfetish.com/humbuckers.html?  they have some resonable pickups and from the reviews I've hear are pretty good for the money.  not quite up to par the the '59 gibsons but they are a good $100 cheaper.
